Nagoa beach, Diu

A Portuguese colony, like Goa, Diu is an offshore island on the western coast, off the Gulf of Cambay. It is a beautiful and secluded island, at a distance of about 786 km from Daman. Straddled by the Chasi river in the north and the Arabian Sea on the remaining three sides, the island commands a coastal length of 21 km. It is about 11 km long and 3 km wide, and is connected to the mainland by two bridges, one near Tad vilage and the other near Ghoghla village in Gujarat. Diu comprises of villages like Bucharwada and Vanakbara, and the urban area of Diu Town, Ghola & Fudam.The lifestyle of the inhabitants resembles that of Gujaratis.

Dui is perhaps the most exotic destination on the West Coast of India. Gently rocked by the winds and waves of the Arabian Sea, Dui is an ideal retreat for the tourists. It offers the most desirable blend of sun, sand and sea. Its sprawling golden beaches provide blissful solitude to the craving lot.

Sightseeing

Among the places of tourist interest, the Fort of Diu occupies a prominent position. It is an expansive and imposing structure, surrounded by a double moat, and located on the extreme coast of the island, with an area of 5,673 hectares. It was constructed between 1535 and 1541 AD by Bahadurshah, the Sultan of Gujarat.

If you are not keen on sight-seeing, a twenty minute refreshing drive out of Dui, through open arid lands to dense coconut groves, brings you to Nagoa Beach, one of the best beaches of India, at the Nagoa hamlet in the village of Burcharwada. This horse-shaped beach, which is a 2 km stretch, is exceptionally beautiful and quiet.A swim in the waters of this virgin beach is a refreshing experience.

Access

By Air:Diu is connected by air, and there are regular air services between Mumbai and Diu.

By Rail:The nearest railhead is Delwada (8 km), on metre gauge, connected to Sasangir and Junagadh.
