Palakkad, described as the granery of Kerala, lies at the foot of the gigantic ghats, on the border of Kerala and Tamil Nadu. It is situated 80 km north-east of Thrissur and 50 km southwest of Coimbatore. This district has mountains, forests and fertile valleys; rivers and mountain streams, several dams and irrigation projects.
